Meet Information – UT Volunteer Cross Country Invitational (Overnight Trip)

September 26-27, 2008

 

Cost: To pay for hotel rooms and van rentals, I will need to collect $30 from each athlete by WEDNESDAY, September 24. Make checks payable to “Brookwood Cross Country” or we can take cash.

 

Itinerary:

Friday

            10:30   Leave Brookwood (Field House – wearing running clothes)

            4:30     Arrive at Victor Ashe Park (course) – run course, strides

            6:00     Dinner

           

Saturday

            8:15     Leave Hotel

            9:45     Varsity Boys Race (warm-up at 8:45)

            11:15   Junior Varsity Boys Race (warm-up at 10:15)

            12:30   Leave Knoxville (with a short lunch stop)

            3:30     Arrive at Brookwood

 

Awards:

            Plaques to the top 3 teams in each race

            Top 15 individuals in each race will receive trophies in the chute

 

Reminders about races:

-          shoes: double-knotted, no jewelry, shirts tucked in

-          begin warm-up one hour prior to your race with teammates (1-2 miles easy jogging)

-          get to the starting line 10 minutes prior to your race for strides (no boxes assigned)

-          meet with Coach Dehnke after your race as a group back at our team camp

-          cool-down together (1 mile easy jogging) and stay for awards and results to be posted

 

Parents: Athletes may ride home from the meet with parents, but please notify Coach Dehnke at the meet before leaving with your son.

 

Directions to Victor Ashe Park

From Atlanta, take I-75 North toward Chattanooga. Take exit 336 (US-41/US-76) toward Dalton/Rocky Face. Merge onto the North Dalton Bypass (US-41). Turn left onto GA-71/Cleveland Highway and continue on GA-71 across the border into Tennessee (it becomes Dalton Pike/TN-60, about 10 miles once in Tennessee). Turn right onto Red Food Drive SE/TN-60/TN-311. Turn right onto APD 40/US-64 BYP E/US-74 E/TN-60 North. Continue to follow TN-60 North. Merge onto I-75 North toward Knoxville. Merge onto I-640 east/I-75 north toward Lexington. Exit onto Western Ave exit.  Follow Western Ave (also known as Oak Ridge Hwy) west (towards Oak Ridge ) .3 miles to Ballcamp Pike - take a right at the light by Wendy's Restaurant and follow Ball Camp to Bradshaw Rd.   Take a right onto Bradshaw and follow 1 mile to the entrance to the park on left.  Bear left when entering park to the XC parking area.

Reminders:

            HYDRATE properly – drink a variety of water and sports drinks starting Thursday.

            EAT CARBS on Thursday night…at the spaghetti dinner!

            Wear RUNNING CLOTHES on the vans. There will not be changing facilities at the course.

Remember to pack your UNIFORM and RACING SHOES with SPIKES.
