Ben Dehnke - Head Coach

Coach Dehnke, a language arts teacher at Brookwood, has been the head cross country coach and an assistant track coach since 2004.  Before that, Coach Dehnke taught and coached the boys and girls cross country teams at Berkmar High School for three years.  Previous to that, he spent one year coaching and teaching at Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri before moving to Georgia.  Coach Dehnke graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2000 and has been married to his lovely wife, Stacy, since July of 2003. Coach and Mrs. Dehnke have two sons, Carter (2) and Grant (born Jan., 2008). In his free time, he enjoys watching sports, running, skiing and reading.

Joe Carter - Assistant Coach

Coach Carter has been in coaching for 41 years, and has been running for 35 years. He was the head coach for Brookwood cross country from 1990 to 1999.  Under his leadership, they won State Championships in 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, finished 2nd in 1992 and 1996 and finished 4th in 1999. As an individual runner he finished 4th in the 800m and 5th in the1500m within his age group at the outdoor nationals in August 2004. He ran 15:56 for 5km at age 44.

Dick Cheshire - Assistant Coach

Coach Cheshire is in his 4th year as a part-time math teacher at Brookwood High School.  He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Auburn University and his Master's from Georgia State University. Coach Cheshire began coaching in DeKalb County in 1971.  He came to Gwinnett County in 1976.  Throughout his career, Coach Cheshire has coached gymnastics, football, basketball, soccer, track and cross country. Coach Cheshire enjoys playing golf, gardening and watching Auburn football, and is looking forward to traveling when fully-retired.  Coach Cheshire and his wife Pam have a daughter Samantha.

David Thompson - Assistant Coach

Coach Thompson is in his 2nd year of teaching language arts at Brookwood High School after spending 9 years in Corporate America.  He is a graduate of Brookwood High School where he ran cross country and played soccer.  He played soccer at Young Harris College and eventually graduated cum laude from Kennesaw State University.  Coach Thompson and his wife Melanie reside in Gwinnett and have two wonderful children.  Coach Thompson enjoys reading, watching sports, cycling, and running.  He is currently the record holder for the Yoknapatawpha County 10K.
